Does anyone know how to achieve this look with conventional image processing
tools?! I am most interested in ImageFX (because of the batch capabilities, of
course), but if anyone cares to explain it in usual terms, I'm sure I can do
some kind of script to ImageFX.

Anyway, the closest I got to that effect was:

Do an 'edge-dettect' on the image. Put it on another buffer/layer
Do a 'posterize' on the image.
Compose the results os the two operations (works better if using a negative
alpha-image from the first operation)

It's not perfect... Not even near what I want...
